10 Schools to battle at the DBS, MoE, COURTS National Reading Competition next week
Five more schools have advanced to the finals of the DBS Radio, Ministry of Education, COURTS National Reading competition carded for July 1st, 2010. At the second semifinals held yesterday at the Public Service Union, several schools booked their spot in the finals.
They are the Delices Primary, Convent Prep, St Mary’s Primary, Salisbury Primary and the Pioneer Prep. DBS radio announcer Mr Alvin Knight applauded the efforts of the students but said that focus should be placed on intonation and punctuation.
“That’s why it is called a news story, so you actually need to read it like it’s a story. If the Chairman of the OECS says something, you should try to put the same kind of intonation. If the story has some form of sadness, then you should read it that way,” Knight said.
These five schools now join the San Sauvuer Primary, Massacre Primary, St. John’s Primary, St Martin’s Primary and the Light House Christian Academy for the finals at the Arawak House of Culture on Thursday July 1st, 2010 at 2:30pm, which will be carried live on DBS radio and SAT Telecommunications Ltd on channel 8. The winner of the national competition will go on to represent Dominica in the OECS Reading Competition scheduled for later this year.
