170 persons were presented with their certificates as they completed a six month programme, preparing them with the technical and life skills needed to succeed in the local skills market.
The programme will also open up opportunities for them to be engaged in gainful employment, a first step to career development towards further education.
This was as the A GANAR Programme which means to win, held a graduation ceremony on Monday September 30th at the Public Service Training Center.
Country Coordinator of A GANAR Dominica, Mr. Francis Joseph stated, that participants were high school dropouts and persons who have had issues with the law.
He said, the programme certainly offers the participants a second chance to earn the respect they deserve in life, while being positive role models for other youth.
The programme teaches the participants to remain focused on their aim in life, while instilling important life skills necessary for all individuals.
It is hoped that, the programme will have helped the participants grow into decent young people to serve their country.
One of the participants of the programme held at the Social Centre, Ms. Shanita Esprit pointed out, that since enrolling at the programme, she has transformed into a better and more positive individual and is now continuing training as an intern at the Social Centre Preschool.
Assistant Chief Youth Officer, Mr. Colbert Pinard encouraged the graduants to strive to be exemplary leaders not only at their work place but within their communities and they should advise other young people to get involved in such programmes.
He urged them not only to wait for if, and when they are incarcerated to want to learn a skill, as there are many Organizations offering skill training outside of the prison.
