2010 Emancipation celebrations comes to a close with a grand Bele and Drumming Festival
Dominicans were called upon to emancipate themselves from all forms of negativity, when the Cultural Division and the National Cultural Council brought down the curtains on the 2010 Emancipation celebrations with a Bele and Drumming Festival. The event which was held in Grandbay on Saturday July 31st, featured performances by the Paix-Bouche Cultural Group, La Sel Difewans, Ti Bwa Drumming Ensemble, the Dubique Cultural Group and the Karifuna Cultural Group, to name a few.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Honorable Justina Charles urged Dominicans to reflect not only the freedom that was passed on by their ancestors but on freeing themselves from all forms of negativity.
Chief Cultural Officer Mr. Raymond Lawrence also called on Dominicans to honor the memories of their African ancestors from whom they have inherited beautiful legacies and expressions and a rich culture.
