Executive Director of Lifeline Ministries Wants Pedophile List

Prevent-Child-AbuseWith the prevalence of child abuse in Dominica, Executive Director of Lifeline Ministries, Ms. Tina Alexander says, there needs to be a public list of pedophiles that will serve as a deterrent to sexual offenders.

She is of the view that this list – currently implemented in the United States and the United Kingdom – saves the lives of children.

Ms. Alexander is troubled that there are persons who continue to rape women and children even while on bail for the same offence.

She noted the Government is doing a lot to address the issue of child abuse; however, they need more resources in the Child Abuse Department to do a more effective job.

Her concern is that although the laws have been changed, they have not been implemented.

She is also advising parents of affected children not to keep silent on the issue and to seek counseling.

Statistics show that most perpetrators were victims of sexual abuse.
