27 Grams of Cannabis Lands Cockrane a Stiff Fine

Creag Cockrane and Samara Webb appeared before Magistrate Evelina Baptiste in Court today.

The two were charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and cultivation of the said cannabis trees; 13 trees to be exact.

They found 27 grams of cannabis in Cockrane’s home.

Cockrane pleaded guilty to all charges.

The court dismissed the charges against Webb for want of prosecution.

The facts in the case are that on the 15th of December 2012, a search warrant was issued for Cockrane’s residence.

Police came to his home that day and he did not allow them entry. They then broke down his door and then showed the search warrant.

At that time Cockrane was seen throwing alleged cannabis at the back of the house, which the police found.

They also found cannabis on his kitchen counter, and gas cylinder, even under the counter of a shop that he owns.

When asked about the alleged cannabis he said, “a little weed I have to smoke.”

They also found 13 cannabis plants in his home. He said that he was growing it for his asthma.

Magistrate Evelina Baptiste is appalled at the high prevalence of marijuana use in this country and told Cockrane that he should be ashamed of himself for introducing Webb to the substance. She is 12 years his junior.

She told Webb that she should be embarrassed and she should think for herself.

For cultivation, Cockrane was charged $10, 000 to be paid by June 30th 2013 or 11 months in prison.

For possession with intent to supply, $2500 to be paid by June 30th 2013 or 7 months in prison.

There was no separate charge for possession.
