A six-member team return from the 2011 Pan-American Amateur Boxing Qualification Tournament
The Commonwealth of Dominica National Boxing Team has returned home after travelling to Cumana, Venezuela to compete in the 2011 Pan-American Amateur Boxing Qualification Tournament.
The Dominica team comprised of Mr Michael Peter as Manager, Coaches Job Joseph and McNeil Jules and Boxers:
Lennon Bannis – 81 kgs – light heavy weight division
Charles Letham – 69 kgs – welter weight division
Rowain Christopher – 75 kgs – middle weight division
Amateur boxers, both male and female from the Caribbean, North America, Central and South America competed for gold, silver and bronze medals.
These medals were awarded in ten (10) men's weight divisions and three (3) women's weight divisions.
The competition started on Friday, March 25th, 2011 at the Ely Montes Coliseum in Cumana, Venezuela.
The boxers needed to win a bronze, silver or gold medal in their particular weight division to qualify for entry into the 2011 Pan-American Games which will be held in Guadalajara Mexico from October 13th to 30th, 2011.
None of Dominica's boxers were able to qualify in their particular weight category.
The next qualification tournament will be held in Canada in June 2011.
