Activities for Environmental Health Month kick into high gear
Dominicans are being called upon to keep their environment healthy in order to be healthy.
This message resonates from the theme chosen to celebrate environment health month in June, ‘healthy environment, healthy people’.
A march with primary school students was held this morning in the city, with focus on pest and termite control, amidst the leptospirosis outbreak on the island.
Environment Health Officer, Mrs Isabella John says during the month, the unit is calling for all citizens to take action to promote good health.
During the month, the department will be hosting a number of activities which include a school sanitation competition among primary school students, an essay competition for secondary school students and public education programmes.
Mrs John says the environmental health department will be focusing on public education, since their goal cannot be achieved without the support of the general public.
A hike within a part of the Waitukubuli National Trail, a prize giving ceremony and an exhibition will also form part of the month’s activities.
