Adult Summer Program Deemed a Success

vlcsnap-2013-09-02-16h00m45s237The Youth Development Division’s eight week annual summer program came to a close on August 30th, with an impressive exhibition, to highlight the projects of the adult learners throughout the Island at the Government Head Quarters.

Over three hundred individuals were given the opportunity to learn new skills offered by the Division.

The classes comprised of subject areas including Basic Electricity, Music, Plumbing, Tiling and Cake Decorating among others.

Martha Andre, Adult Education Officer, expressed her satisfaction at the outcome of the summer Programme.

Ms. Andre said the programmes are organized to suit the needs of the people.

According to the education officer, many people have become sole traders providing services from the skills they have learnt.

Meanwhile Ms. Gloria Shillingford, Minister of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs said the outcome of the programme has met her expectations.

She is pleased, she says that this program is designed to give individuals a second chance to attain what they missed out on in the past.

There were exhibits from the South-east, Laplaine, Grandfond and the Roseau area and environs.
