Agriculture Insurance Policy soon to be formulated
Minister of Agriculture, Honourable Matthew Walter is describing a just concluded Agriculture symposium, held at the Jolly Beach Hotel in Antigua last week as very relevant and timely. The conference highlighted the issue of Agriculture Risk Management in the Eastern Caribbean, focusing mainly on Agricultural Insurance. The symposium which was hosted by the government of Antigua and Barbuda, along with the Caricom Secretariat, other donors and the various governments of the region, brought together regional policy makers, development bankers, and private insurance technicians and producers, to deliberate on the planning, innovation, development and management of a sustainable agricultural insurance scheme for the region. Mr. Walter said that there was a wide range of presentations by regional and international experts on the state and outlook for agricultural data collection and requirements, the Caribbean hazard landscapes, value chain management, public and private partnerships and experiences with agricultural risk management in various regions to include Latin and Central America and the Caribbean. According to him, Dominica was well represented at the symposium.
