Basketball officials promise six months of good game
Basketball enthusiasts can look forward to six months of the good game, as the DABA seeks to return to its glory days with a record number of 31 teams participating in this year’s tournament.
This disclosure was made at the official launch of the 2011 Lime Dominica DABA National Basketball League, held at the Lindo Park in Goodwill on Saturday April 9th, 2011.
President of the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) Mr. Dave Baron says the association is hoping to continue in its efforts to decentralize the sport.
This, he believes will enable the players to showcase their talents in their respective communities while simultaneously creating increased participation and support from their family and friends and others in the community.
He says while they are excited about the increased participation they are also mindful of the fact that it comes with added requirements for example, that of additional man power to officiate and keep scores and other statistics.
In light of this Mr. Baron called on each team to identify one or two persons who are willing to assist in these areas.
Honourable Kelver Darroux who represented the Prime Minister at Saturday’s function, encouraged the players to remain positive while being disciplined at all times.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Honourable Justina Charles commended the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association for their efforts in reviving the sport of basketball at the national level.
General Manager of Dominica Brewery and Beverages Limited Mr. Lynford Guthrie says his company is encouraged by the players continued display of sportsmanship.
Communications Manager at Lime Dominica Limited Miss Ferdina Frampton says Lime welcomes the opportunity to assist the DABA in its quest to return the sport of basketball to the prominence it once enjoyed in Dominica.
The DABA also paid tribute to their honoraries who were basically the first generation of Dominica’s basketball; the members of the 1976 National Basketball team.
