Blood Bank Unit calls for more donors
The Blood Bank Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital is sending an appeal for more blood donors, in ensuring that blood is always available at the Bank.
Ms Pierre of the Bank Blood Unit made the appeal at a Health Walk held in observance of World Blood Donors Day last week Saturday.
“We are trying to engage our young people, those that are young in age and young in heart; everybody, to support the cause. We are calling on all health persons, and that’s why we recognize the Health Information Unit because they are focusing on health, and more than that, they don’t just tell us about health but they also engage us in activities to make sure we stay healthy,” said Pierre.
Earlier this month, Dominica joined the rest of the world in observing World Blood Donors Day held under the theme ‘new blood for the world’. Ms Pierre also expressed her gratitude to their current donors, while emphasizing the great need for additional donors.
“We want to say hearts off to all our voluntary donors, all donors who have given in the past and potential donors who are going to join the rank and file of our blood donor base. Come on board, it’s a great team to belong to, we can selflessly share the gift of life with others who are in need,” Pierre lamented.
Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 66 is qualify to be a donor and can contact the blood bank unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital at anytime.
