Burning Flames to add more heat to Possie Carnival
The town of Portsmouth has also taken the initiative to change their route for the opening of carnival, as they prepare to welcome the burning flames from Antigua on carnival Tuesday for Possie Mas 2k11.
The Northern Festivals Committee will spearhead the official opening of Possie Mas on Sunday, February 20th, which will begin with a street parade at 1:00pm from the purple turtle beach.
One of the lead organizers of the event, Danley James says Sunday’s opening at Portsmouth will feature three of the biggest bands in Dominica, while carnival Tuesday will feature the red hot burning flames from Antigua.
Minister of Tourism and Legal Affairs, Honorable Ian Douglas, who is also working with the northern festivals committee in making the event a success, says as minister of tourism he is pleased to see that preparations leading up to the real mas is progressing smoothly.
He says Dominica continues to lead carnival activities in the Caribbean by staging the most spontaneous carnival, a major aspect of our tourism product.
Douglas says the involvement of rural communities in launching their own carnival also adds to the whole spontaneity of the real mas.
The community of Mahaut is also scheduled to have their carnival opening on Sunday, February 20th, while Marigot is scheduled for February 26th, 2011.
