Business Development Officer in the Creative Industries Calls for Greater Efforts to Be Put Into Dominican Music
Mr. Sobers Esprit, Business Development Officer in the Creative Industries at the Export Development Unit (EDU), says the challenge of music in Dominica has changed since the 90’s.
The challenge then was to make a break through to the French West Indies market and some Caribbean islands, he noted; however today the challenge is bigger.
He believes that the challenge for OECS music or more specifically Dominican music is to build that ‘world brand’.
“Today it calls for greater efforts. Building a global brand requires a number of investments”, he said; noting investment in human capital, work quality, collaboration and the utilization of skills available.
To build that brand, Mr. Esprit believes that greater efforts need to be out into the industry.
He implored the musicians to understand that putting out an album or CD is not enough to break the barriers into the global brand.
Mr. Esprit also revealed that in the coming year the EDU will further provide support and revise issues including management, marketing and product development.
