By-election nominations made
The Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) in Dominica has nominated candidates for two by-elections next month, even as it seeks to prevent voting from taking place. The seats of two opposition parliamentarians namely; that of Hector ‘Spags’ John of Salisbury and Mr. Edison James of Marigot were declared vacant by the speaker of the house of assembly after the MPs’ missed three successive sittings of parliament. Leader of the UWP, Ron Green, has challenged the speaker’s authority in the matter. Mr Green said that he hoped to be able to file documents seeking an injunction against the holding of the by-elections. The governing Dominica Labour Party has also filed candidates for the election.
