Cabrits Resort & Spa to be completed in 2015
Tourism Minister Honourable Ian Douglas says that, the Cabrits Hotel Resort and Spa being financed by the Kingdom of Morocco as a gift to Dominica in the town of Portsmouth will be completed in the first quarter of 2015.
He made the statement at the launch of Tourism Month when asked about its slow progress.
The project began in October of 2011 with an 18 month construction time frame to be completed by 2013; however it has been plagued by a number of setbacks.
Mr. Douglas said the concrete structure of the Hotel has been completed in addition to the roof, so now the soft works such as installation of lighting fixtures and tiling, which are essential for the branding of the Hotel.
In defending the project Mr. Douglas stated, there is a need for hotel rooms in the north at an international standard, as this would attract more tourism into Portsmouth, which in turn would increase Dominica’s stay-over tourism.
He noted the new hotel will provide more employment for Dominicans as when completed, persons will be needed to work in several areas.
“A team has to come in from Morocco to deal with the finishing aspects of the Hotel, and we are nearing completion on a decision for the sole operator of the Hotel so this team can complete it to the operator’s desire, “added Mr. Douglas.
The sixty-room hotel will comprise seven major buildings in addition to 10 suites, a conference facility for over 100 people, a gym, spa, pool and restaurants, according to Mr. Douglas
Speaking previously on the Hotel, Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit said, when it becomes fully operational at least 100 Dominicans will be employed full time, who will get their salary directly from the facility.
The hotel and spa is being built on a 4 ½ acre site located between the Purple Turtle Beach and the Cabrits National Park.
