Cadet Corps Rally to End Cadet Corps Week
Cadets Island-wide all converged at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth on Saturday April 6th, where a ceremony was held as part of a grand finale to of Cadet Corps Week, which began on March 31st.
Commandant of the Dominica Cadet Corps Mr. David Andrew, stated this year’s observation was celebrated under the theme “Cadetting Develop Your True Potential.”
He said despite challenges for the past year with financial and other resources, he said the year was reasonably successful due to the efforts of some hard working people.
He also commended the Cadets for their positive work.
Colonel Patrick Taylor, Commandant of the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force stated, Cadetting develops ones potential, it encapsulating the reasons that we as adults serve.
There are more benefits to be gained by the young persons involved in the program.
He mentioned the celebration of Cadet Week demonstrates the commitment of the Cadets and the Government of Dominica to youth development and the continued existence of the Dominica Cadet Corps.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Honourable Justina Charles extended an invitation to the parent of students at the various secondary schools particularly those in forms one and two, to encourage their children to join the Cadet Corps.
She said that this will allow them to be exposed to beneficial long life skills during their stint at school.
However she pointed out that interactions with many parents have caused her to realize that many parents are not adequately informed on the operations of the Corps.
Mrs. Charles added the task of the Cadets is not an easy one; therefore we should assist them in any way possible.
She advised the Cadets to be aspiring leaders so they can excel, while taking advantage of all opportunities within and out of the Corps.
At the ceremony, deserving Cadets were promoted to higher ranks, while others were awarded for their hard work.
