Cameron Douglas is DAME Student of the Year

YAS-475_Enlarged-09Cameron Douglas, a Grade 7 Alto Saxophone student has been named the Dominica Association of Music Educators’ (DAME) Student of the Year.

A total of ninety six (96) students took the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) practical exam and the Dominica Association of Music Educators (DAME) practical exams conducted at the UWI Open Campus between April 15 and 25, 2014.

Students represented the Christian Musical Class, the Henckel-Muriel Music Workshop as well as the studios of Valena Letang, Norman Jean Jacques, Marvin Marie, Tyson Johnson and Huguette St. Hillaire.

Of the forty (40) students who played at the ABRSM exams; 7 received Distinctions, 12 Merits and 21 Passes while of the fifty six (56) students who played at the DAME local exams; 20 received Distinctions, 17 Merits and 19 Passes.

Cameron Douglas of the Valena Letang Studio obtained the highest score in the ABRSM exam. The DAME top student is Tojya Vital a Grade 1 Violin student of the Christian Musical Class.

The students were examined on Piano, Recorder, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Voice, Violin, Saxophone, Horn, Trumpet, Euphonium and Trombone.

Meanwhile, a Concert showcasing performances by high achieving students will be held on Thursday 1st May 2014 at Fort Young Hotel from 7.00pm.

At that event, awards and prizes will be presented to deserving students.
