Cancer Society Donate $5000 to Ministry of Health
The Dominica Cancer Society Because We Care Committee on Thursday June 5th presented a cheque of EC$5000 from their fundraising day in April to the Minister of Health Honourable Julius Timothy.
These funds came from collections in various stores, donations from individuals and corporate Because We Care Partners, in addition to passing the hat at the event to welcome Patron Beulah Providence and her guests from Boston who arrived on the Norwegian Sun Cruise.
Coordinator of Because We Care, Tina Alexander stated, these funds are for the maintenance of the new CT Scanner.
She noted, it costs a lot of money for one patient with a care giver, to travel to a nearby island and have a CT scan, but now that the new scanner is up and running, patients can access scans for one-tenth of the cost and those under 18 or over 65 can access it for free.
Minister of Health Honourable Julius Timothy, welcomed the donation, while highlighting the expense in travelling overseas for CT Scans.
He added, he is hopeful that the MRI Scan Machine that the Prime Minister recently announced the Government will be purchasing will arrive in the next 3 to 4 months.
The next fundraising event for Because We Care is a movie night on June 14th at Alliance Francaise where they will watch the Best Man Holiday.
Tickets cost $10. Interested persons can contact the Cancer Society on 449-8593.
