Caribbean Youth Day

The Dominican youth joins with the young people around the Caribbean to commemorate Caribbean Youth Day, September 30, 2012.

The theme of this year’s event is “Youth Harnessing Positive Energy for Caribbean Development.” This theme is a call to positive action from our youth and to development and engagement in partnerships with and for youth.

Young People under the age of 30 comprise approximately 60 per cent of the region’s citizenry and we have a vested interest in ensuring that the voices of the youth are heard by our heads of Government and stakeholders.

There is a need for strengthening National Youth Councils and Youth Parliaments as well as the revision and in some cases the creation of National Youth Policies that will aid in youth development in the region.

The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors of Dominica says the young people of Dominica should be ready to lead, act, educate and innovate.

In addition, they should be ready to highlight the positive contributions that our young people across the region are making which are often overshadowed by the few who participate in negative activities.
