Caricom Youth Ambassador pledges to be ‘a voice’ for Dominica’s youth
Newly appointed Caricom Youth Ambassador, Kimani John of the Carib Territory has promised Dominican youth that he will do his best to represent them well and speak to the many issues that are plaging the youth.
John, who is also a local leader in the Caribbean Child Support Initiative (CCSI) Youth and Community Advocacy Network (YOUCAN) is also Dominica’s Eastern District Youth Development Officer. He will serve as the Caricom Youth Ambassador for Dominica for a period of two years.
Mr John said that during his past experience working with young people from the Atkinson to Petite Soufriere district, to which he had been assigned, he has seen tremendous strides as it relates to the development of young people.
He said that programs such as youth symposiums always tend to give the youth an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns, as well as to recommend solutions to the many problems that they face.
‘The response I have gotten from the young people is overwhelming, but there is still a lot of work to be done especially in the areas of self-motivation and confidence,’ said John.
He encouraged Dominica’s youth to remain positive and take ownership in paving a positive path for their future.
‘My advice for Dominica’s youth is to be your own person. Look at your own development, have confidence in yourself and remain focused,’ John concluded.
