Carnival Victory to end its weekly stopover in Dominica
The Government of Dominica is expressing regrets with the decision of a Cruise Liner to drop Dominica from its Caribbean Itinerary as of November 2nd, 2010.
Minister for National Security, Labour and Immigration Honourable Charles Savarin said that the decision by Carnival Cruise Lines to withdraw one of its vessels ‘The Victory’ after 21 years due to the high cost of fuel will have a severe impact on the local Tourism Sector.
Savarin, who described the loss of the Carnival Cruise Line Vessel as a bitter blow to Tourism Sector said that it will pose a major challenge to both the Government and people of Dominica as it will result in the loss of employment in that sector.
According to him, the Government had sought to address the issue but the reasons put forward have made it difficult to find solutions. Nonetheless, he assured Dominicans that negotiations will continue to find a replacement vessel in the not too distant future.
In the interim, Savarin urged stakeholders in the cruise tourism sector to remain vigilant in the provision of quality services to the cruise lines and passengers who are continuing to visit Dominica.
