Catholic youth encouraged to ‘remain firm in the faith’
Scores of young people gathered in the community of Salisbury on Saturday, April 16th, 2011, for the annual World Youth Day Rally, organized by the Diocese of Roseau Youth Secretariat in collaboration with the Parish of St Theresa.
The theme for this year’s rally ‘Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith’, was declared by Pope Benedict the XVI.
The rally featured the launching of a Time Capsule showcasing the excellence of youth today, a panel discussion, a tree planting ceremony and an official opening ceremony.
Minister for Tourism and Legal Affairs, Honorable Ian Douglas encouraged the youth to uphold the theme chosen for the event, amidst the many challenges that they may face on a daily basis.
The time capsule, which is a collection of writings, objects and interviews that highlights the positive contributions made by young people to society for the period 2010 to 2011, will be stored in the Diocesan archives for the next 25 to 30 years.
It will then be opened by the youth of the next generation.
The panel discussion deliberated on the topic ‘are the teachings of the church relevant to the needs of youth today?’
Various youth groups also showcased their talents in song and dance at Saturday’s event.
