Child Fund Caribbean and New Beginning Gifts & Leathers Launch Craft Workshop
As unemployment among youth and young adults continues to be an area of national concern, the Child Fund Caribbean in collaboration with New Beginning Craft Workshop, organised a skills training program designed to build the technical, business management and human relations skills of its enrolled families.
This initial training, which began on April 28th 2014, will focus on the production of leather accessories.
It targets marginalized youth and young adults resident in the urban communities, bringing them into the legal economic landscape of the country.
Ms. Vanessa Winston, Proprietor of New Beginning Gifts & Leathers says this workshop was organized because of need.
“A need that persons needed to be skilled, that persons needed to develop, persons needed to be employed – that was the need of this workshop,” Winston said.
The Area Strategic Plan (ASP), of the West Dominica Children’s Federation, is the main implementing partner of ChildFund Dominica.
Ms. Shalina Samuel, a participant of the Craft Workshop is urging young people to learn as many skills as possible, so they always have a backup plan if at any point in their lives they wish to be self-employed.
The workshop is expected to see the participation of 10 to 12 individuals from the communities of; Stock Farm, Yam Piece, Gutter Village and Tarish Pit.
