Construction of a New La Plaine Police Station
Over three million dollars is being invested into the construction of a new La Plaine police station that will also serve the villages of Grand Fond, Morne Jaune, Riviere Cyrique, Rosalie and Boetica.
Construction of the station is being financed through a loan from the Dominica Social Security through the firm of A.K. Henderson Ltd.
Honourable Petter Saint Jean, Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine Constituency, has stated that the project is having a significant impact on the economy of La Plaine and surrounding villages, attributing the economic benefits to the number of young men from La Plaine who are employed on the project.
Also speaking on the initiative, Parliamentary Representative for the Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique and Grand Fond constituency, Honourable Ivor Stephenson added that the new project will bring improved security services to the constituency.
He indicated that the old location was not properly serving the constituency especially when having to attend court.
The main building is a two-level structure, with the lower level housing administrative offices, holding cells and the magistrate’s court.
The upper level will house the male and female living quarters while the second building will serve as the Inspector’s quarters.
