In court news, 27 year old Kenworth Yannick Alexander of Woodfordhill was fined $550 after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court on June 28th, 2010. Mr Alexander, who had in his possession 2 bags of cannabis, was apprehended by the police on Saturday, June 26th, 2010. His fine is to be paid by September 30th 2010, in default 3 months imprisonment.
In more court news, Ken Laurent, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and falsifying his name after police immediately reported to a disturbance at the maternity ward at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Thursday June 24th 2010. The deported Laurent was fined $700.00 to be paid by November 30th 2010 in default 3 months imprisonment and $400.00 for falsifying his name. If he fails to pay the said amount, he will serve an additional 2 months imprisonment. The terms under this charge is suspended for one year.
“Act like a man not like an animal,” said Magistrate Evelina Baptiste as she dismissed a case between siblings at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court on June 28th, 2010. Leecha Mitchel the complainant asked that the case against her 24 year old brother be dropped as she was in an empathetic mood. Her brother was charged for malicious damage after he destroyed a blue cradle valued at $500.00 on June 25th 2010. Before dismissing the case, the complainant was asked if there were any reasons behind her decision and she replied “No, he is my brother and he asked for forgiveness.” In the interim, the defendant only uttered three words to his sister, “I am sorry.”
