Craig Laronde of DGS Emerges Winner of Tourism Youth Congress 2013
Craig Laronde from the Dominica Grammar School has emerged winner of the Tourism Youth Congress 2013, held on Friday May 3rd.
The 4th former succeeded among seven other students from various schools, who participated in the competition. He received the title of Junior Tourism Minister, $300.00 dollars cash prize and $500 dollars, to be awarded to his school.
The Seventh Day Adventist School represented by Sonita Toussaint was second place and Convent High school captured third place. (Footage of runners up)The Tourism Youth Congress was organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization with an aim to develop students’ ability to prepare and present speeches.
Each student spoke for a maximum for three minutes on two topics: multigenerational travels and Caribbean Agro Tourism.
The other Secondary Schools that participated in the competition were:
Dominica Community High School, Portsmouth Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School, Wesley High School and the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School.
Mr. Craig Laronde will represent Dominica at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Tourism Youth Congress, carded for October 16 to18 2013 in Martinique.
All students received certificates of participation.
Ms. Kitwanie Carbon won both the local and regional competition held in September 2011.
In 2012 Ms. Nyana George of the Castle Bruce Secondary School represented Dominica at the 2012 edition of the Regional Tourism Youth Congress.
