Cruise Captain urges vendors to purchase craft items from the island’s indigenous people for resale
Captain of the MV AZURA; Paul Dowds is appealing to the various stakeholders within the cruise industry, especially the vendors, to continue creating employment for the island’s indigenous people; the Kalinagoes, by purchasing their local craft items for resale to cruise passengers instead of purchasing it from the Chinese.
According to Captain Dowds, most if not all cruise passengers are specifically interested in purchasing locally made craft items instead of imported items whenever visiting any given destination.
He made these comments after he was presented with a locally craft basket filled with local products from the ship’s agent; Whitchurch Shipping.
After the customary exchange of plaques, Captain Dowds also commended the Ministry of Tourism for the design of the plague which he described as ‘the most unique plaque that he has ever received.’
