DABA delays the official opening of the 2011 Lime National Basketball League
The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) has delayed the official opening ceremony of the 2011 Lime National Basketball League, due to the low number of registration.
Public Relations Officer of the DABA Mr. Mickey Joseph says the league which was scheduled to begin on Saturday March 19th, 2011 is now slated to commence on April 9th, 2011 as they were forced to extend the deadline for registration to March 31st, 2011.
Therefore, the association is encouraging all teams to pay their registration fee as soon as possible as there will not be any further extension to the registration deadline.
This he says is imperative if they are to take advantage of the dry season.
Mr. Joseph says they are expecting the same amount of teams which participated in the league last year plus an additional four (4) teams to participate in this year’s tournament.
Some of the new teams are from the town of Portsmouth and the communities of Bense and Grand Fond.
According to him, with the increase in the number of teams the league is anticipated to be longer than usual.
The association has formulated a four (4) year plan which they have submitted to the Dominica Olympic Committee.
Some of the key priority areas under this plan, is the improvement of various basketball facilities across the island, their re-entrance in the Caribbean Basketball Competition and the development of a women’s division.
