DABA Playoffs: Defending Champs Blazers Through to the Premier Division Finals With a Dramatic Win

Defending Champions Blazers indicated to the challengers Thursday night that they are not yet ready to relinqish their championship.

After trailing for most of the game against the regular season champs United Insurance Sharks, it was in the last 4 minutes that Blazers finally took a 1 point lead bringing the scores to 68-67.

After a few missed free throws by both teams in the dying minutes of the game and a crucial missed layup by Neverson Jnobaptiste - which could’ve tied the game, the score now stood at 71-69, in favor of Blazers.

Fans almost witnessed a repeat of the miracle shot by Heywood Powell the night before, now in the form of Ian Lazare of Sharks. With 2 seconds left on the clock, Sharks inbound the ball in the hands of Lazare, who quickly dribbled to the right corner and pulled up for a game winning 3 point shot.

The crowd rose to their feet, as the shot went up but landed on the back-iron of the rim, just a few inches from going through the net. Contrasting looks were on the faces of the players and fans of both teams as the final whistle blew; Blazers with relief, Sharks with disappointment.

With the win, Blazers celebrate a to 2 – 0 sweep of the United Insurance Sharks to book their place in the Finals.
