Dapd Happy With Advances In Accessibility
Advances in accessibility for persons with disabilities, is having a positive impact on members of the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD).
Director of the DAPD Mrs. Natahlie Murphy says, the fact that many business persons are making the effort to have ramps installed; to ease the access of persons with disabilities is encouraging.
Mrs. Murphy stated while the necessary legislation is not in place, the building code makes provisions for access to the physical environment, namely public buildings for persons with disabilities.
While congratulating the business persons making the necessary changes to assist persons with disabilities, Mrs. Murphy is advising more business persons to join in the effort.
The Director pointed out that; education, access to the physical environment, employment, health, adequate standard of living and social protection are some of the very import issues affecting persons with disabilities, which they are working to have addressed.
She says the ratification of the convention of the right of persons with disabilities by the government, is what they need to have these issues resolved.
She added when the convention is ratified there will be a rise in the production level, as it is a proven fact that persons with disabilities who are part of the work force are very productive.
Mrs. Murphy is calling on the public to continue the strong support they have been giving to the association, which they appreciate.
