DAPD Receive Grant Funding for Multi-Purpose Development Centre
Construction for the new Multi-Purpose Development Facility is expected to commence in a week’s time, following the signing of a grant by the Government of Japan on Friday March 14th 2014.
The signing ceremony took place at the DAPD – Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities’ office located on Canal Lane in Goodwill, between the Executive Director of the DAPD, Mrs. Nathalie Murphy and the Deputy Head of Mission on behalf of the Government of Japan Mr. Hirofumi Murabayashi.
Mrs. Murphy said it has been a long wait for this venture, as they had to submit a proposal for the project, which was approved by Valentine’s Day 2014.
Meanwhile, Mr. Murabayashi says, it was an honour to sign the grant contract, for this project.
The funding was provided through the GGP – Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects, whose main aim is to assist non-profit organizations.
Through this project persons with disabilities will have increased access to the DAPD’s events, as they will be able to stay overnight in a dormitory, a move to decrease the worry about transportation to and from events.
Some of the funding will also be used to fully equip the dormitory.
The building will be constructed on the right hand side of the DAPD’s facility in Goodwill, and will measure 310 square feet and will included bathroom facilities
