Death in Fond Cole After Fire
Dominicans are being urged to ensure they remain vigilante, especially when dealing with fire or open flames, while refraining from the use of candles, as they can tip over and ignite combustible material causing fires.
Farmers are also advised that, when clearing land for gardening they need to be very cautious and monitor the fire at all times, to ensure it does not get out of control.
This was according to Mr. Anthony Williams, Acting Deputy Fire Chief on the heels of a fatal fire in the community of Fond Cole on Tuesday April 16th 2013.
The Fire Department extends deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased Ms. Nicholas.
Mr. Williams stated, during their investigations the police were present and they are currently heading this investigation.
In responding to critics who said, the Fire Department should have asked more specific questions when receiving the report of the fire, this is what Mr. Williams had to say;
Mr. Williams noted a ladder had to be used to gain access to the area, and effective firefighting was executed.
The deceased lived in a wooden structure measuring 15 by 10 feet located in the Fond Cole Housing Scheme, and was the lone occupant.
Investigations into the cause of the fire continues.
