Debutant Carlyn Xavier and 2-time Soca Monarch DaddyChess emerge victorious at the 2011 Soca Monarch
Two-time Soca Monarch of Dominica, Chester ‘Daddy Chess’ Letang has made it three times in a row, having won the power segment of the 2011 Soca Monarch Competition, on Saturday night.
However, Daddy Chess was not the only winner on that night as debutant Carlyn Xavier of the Fanatik Band was able to amass the most points to win the groovy segment of the Competition.
The scenes on stage represented that of a carnival street jump up as the various artist went above and beyond to thrill the massive crowd which gathered at Carnival City on Friday, evening.
Daddy Chess who only participated in the power round of the competition was able to outshine his competitors to capture the title for the third consecutive year.
Carlyn Xavier who made her debut at this year’s competition came in second while Anwar Cadette came in third and Deli of the WCK Band came in fourth.
In the Groovy segment Caryln was able to step it up a notch and suffice the judges to capture the crown. She was followed by Phillip Horsford of the Swinging Stars Orchestra. Four-time Calypso Monarch Dennison ‘Dice’ Joseph came in third while Soca Artiste Clint H was able to secure the fourth position.
SAT TV News spoke to the two champions moments after the competition. An elated Daddy Chess says he feels honored to have been granted the opportunity once again to represent Dominica at the upcoming regional Soca Monarch Competition.
Meanwhile, Carlyn Xavier attributed her success to hard work.
