DEXIA Can be Relocated to Use Building for Vendor Promenade, Says Roseau Mayor
Mayor of Roseau, His Worship Cecil Joseph, in an effort to better house some of the vendors, who conduct business on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard, recently suggested durable tents as a solution for a cleaner, safer, more attractive environment.
In addition to this incentive, he is of the view that, the operations of the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA), should also be relocated to the Canefield Industrial Site so that vendors can occupy, the then vacant facility.
This would be ideal as it would be located close to the sea side where a jetty can be easily constructed, which will aid in them saving on the transportation of their goods and the sheds in that area are large enough to accommodate DEXIA.
“With this change, the DEXIA building can then be used as an area for a Promenade for the vendors, because it is big enough to put all of the necessary vendors we have”, he said.
The necessary facilities including washrooms and running water would also be installed.
Offices would also be added to manage the vendors at the facility.
“So its not far from the main port and the agents responsible for the tourist that your first stop would be at that building as the ship announces where the visitors can go to do business.”
This arcade, he said, would be very beneficial to the vendors. They would not have to break down stalls at the end of each day and their booth areas can be locked up, providing better security for their items.
“It would make for a more conducive environment for the vendors and tourist to operate, while they conduct business,” the mayor added.
He said people tend to fight against change but this one should be viewed in a positive light.
