DFC releases the names of finalists for the 2011 Soca Monarch Competition

On Wednesday, the Dominica Festivals Committee released the names of the finalists for this year’s Soca Monarch Competition on February 25th, which forms part of the official Mas Domnik 2011 programme.

 

This year’s Soca Monarch Competition which will be held in two separate categories, namely, Groovy Soca and Power Soca will feature several well-known and emerging artistes in the soca genre in Dominica.

 

2009 Monarch Daddy Chess will defend his crown in the Power Soca round of the competition as the last remaining Soca Champ in Dominica.

 

The back-up band for the competition will be the Fanatik Band, one of Dominica’s most exciting and highly regarded musical group under the direction of Cornel ‘Fingers’ Phillip.

 

The finalists and their songs, in order of appearance on the competition night are:

The 2011 Soca Monarch competition, produced by the DFC will be held at Carnival City, Pottersville Savannah, on Friday 25th February, starting at 8:30pm.

 

The show will climax with performances from veteran Bouyon Band WCK and the Royalty Band out of the tri-state area of the United States.
