DFC Valedictorian Tops GCE A Levels

2013 Valedictorian of the Dominica State College, Denzel Guye, was named the Island Scholar at the GCE A Level Examinations on Wednesday, October 30th.

The top student received an A in Mathematics, A+ in Chemistry, A in Economics, A in the General Paper and a B in Business Studies.

Island Scholar Denzel Guye in his address at the small ceremony, hosted in his honour, said the journey to success did not come easy.

He thanked God for the ability to achieve, his parents for the support and the lecturers, who spent countless hours at the College.

Meanwhile, Coordinator of the A Level Support Programme, Mr. Henry Volney, expressed the need for a review of the criteria for selecting the Island Scholar.

According to him, the National Scholarship is still based on the GCE A Level, which he feels is an error that needs to be redressed.

Minister for Education, and Human Resource Development, Honourable Petter St. Jean said however, that the commitment of the A Level support Programme over the years should be commended.

April Jules also obtained an A in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and General Paper, while Isaac Alfred received an A in Mathematics, Physics and Economics and a D in the General Paper.

This year 42 candidates wrote the GCE A Level examinations.
