In a concerted effort to create visitor safety at beaches, particularly on the north east coast of Dominica, the Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs along with the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), collaborated with the National Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (NCCU) to address this problem.

Four safety tip signs have been installed at Batibou Beach, Number One Beach, Woodford Hill Beach and Pagua Beach.

These areas were selected, following unfortunate incidents with visitors at those locations.

The signs utilize DDA’s signature brand colours to represent blue for water and green for land. The safety tips vary depending on the location.

All signs welcome persons to the beach and note to be mindful of surroundings, use certified tourism service providers, and to take note of the types of ocean currents present and other weather conditions that impact on adjacent rivers.

At Pagua Beach, visitors were advised not to swim.

Other partners involved in the planning, included community groups and tourism service providers in these locations along with the Physical Planning Division.

The Discover Dominica Authority is optimistic, that the signs will impact positively and ultimately reduce incidents at these locations.

The NCCU is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Tourism and DDA to sponsor these safety signs to ensure visitor safety at beaches in Dominica.
