Discover Dominica Authority assists in granting the wish of a twelve year old from Barbados
The wish of a Bajan student Kayla Brewster, who is suffering from chronic diabetes, to see the waterfalls of the Nature Island of Dominica has become a reality after the Precious Touch Foundation Inc. partnered with Discover Dominica Authority in making her wish a reality.
The Precious Touch Foundation Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization that is dedicated to granting the wishes of children between the ages of 2-16 who are diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and children who are terminally ill.
After receiving the request from the organization, Discover Dominica Authority organized a tour to two of Dominica’s Premiere waterfalls; Trafalgar Falls and the Emerald Pool.
During a press conference held at the Dominica Festivals Committee’s Office on Tuesday March 29th, 2011, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Mrs. Claudia Bellot said that Discover Dominica Authority is pleased to assist the Precious Touch Foundation Inc. in helping to make Kayla’s wish a reality.
Kayla also took the opportunity to thank all those who helped make her wish become a reality.
Founder and President of the Precious Touch Foundation Inc. Mrs. Adorial Maxwell Hazel says the children who are ill are usually referred to the Foundation by a parent, guardian, family member, friend or a medical professional who is treating the child.
She says the wish is then chosen by the child and approved by the foundation after which the ‘Wish Team’ sets out to make it come true.
In order for a child to qualify for a wish, the child must meet the criteria which states that he/she must be diagnosed with a life threatening medical condition, confirmed and verified by a medical professional.
