Dive Fest as an employment booster

At an opening ceremony held on Monday 12thJuly of this week, the Minister for Tourism and Legal Affairs , Honourable Ian Douglas mentioned that he has recognized that Dive Fest does not only market Dominica but can also be classified as an employment booster. He mentioned that diving provides economic opportunity for many persons whether they are directly or indirectly involved in the diving niche.

“When the divers come to Dominica, they come with a lot of gear and equipment. They have to sleep and eat in our hotels and move up and down in our country. As a result, transportation gets involved in that process. As a result, every single aspect of Dominica’s economy benefits from the dive niche,” said Mr. Douglas.

He also acknowledged a few individuals who have contributed tremendously to the tourism industry especially the late Derrick Perryman who was a great pioneer in the tourism sector.

Mr. Douglas said, “We will continue to do the job that the pioneer like Derrick has started. Even a month before, Mrs. Janice Armour got recognized in a very special way for her contribution to tourism. We have a lot of great people working in the backgrounds to ensure not only our tourism industry but the dive niche goes from strength to strength.”

The Minister said that the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, Discover Dominica Authority and the Ministry of Tourism is working closely to ensure that Dominica remains second to none, not only in the region but the world by extension.

Dive Fest 2010 began on the 9th of July and continues up to the 18th of July.
