DNCW President Calls for Greater Participation of Women in Politics
President of Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW), Vanya David has called for greater participation of women in politics by the year 2015.
This call came from speculation about the Council’s lack of response to the victimization and abuse of women, particularly on political platforms.
But according to David, just as other institutions, the council operates by policies and conventions which Dominica has adopted and signed.
“..we are guided under constitutions like everything else and so we do not just take only the political issue and rush through it”, she said.
David noted that women are in the minority and continue to record low participation at parliamentary levels.
David added that goal three of the U.N Millennium Development Goal also seeks to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women through increasing participation in the field of politics.
