Dominica a Possibility to Host 2015 CPL
Dominica may be considered as a possible host for the 2015 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), according to Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Premier League Damien O’Donohoe.
He noted, Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit had made contact with him to discuss the possibility.
“We see the appetite in Dominica so what I discussed with them is coming to see some of the games this year, for the possibly opening of discussions in September as we have neutral venues in St. Kitts and Grenada, and we can see the excitement in those regions as being able to host games has had a big impact on their economy,”O’Donohoe explained.
The CEO said, any host country must have thousands of hotel rooms available as accommodation will be a critical part of hosting the event, in addition to an investment by the Dominica Tourist Board and the fee required to host the games.
O’Donohoe pointed out the CPL is a great marketing tool for any host country.
“You know the quality of the lights and the stadium is important, so we have our operations teams go into each stadium is up to international standards.”
He stated there are ways around accommodation problems and bringing in cruise ships to house persons coming to watch the games is a possibility.
The CEO added, hosting the CPL costs in the region of US $25 to $30 million.
