DOMINICA CAN BE MAJOR LEADER OF TECHNOLOGY SAYS ITU REP
Dominica has the potential of being recognized as a major leader using technology in the Caribbean.
This is of the view of Caribbean area representative for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), following discussions with Telecommunications Minister, Honourable Ambrose George, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Telecommunications, Mr. Davis Letang, as well as other key persons in the ICT sector.
Mr. Cleveland Thomas, who is visiting Dominica to become familiarized with the country said, Dominica like many other countries has an important developmental role to utilize information technology.
Mr. Thomas says, there is a need for the unification of government ICT related activities, which will auger well for the country.
Some of the discussions focused on ICT for the Youth Programme and the need for more community centres and access to these community centres.
Based on Dominica’s success in ICT, Mr. Thomas is encouraging Dominica to share some of their useful applications with other Caribbean counterparts as we are all one Caribbean.
He added it is important that Governments work with each other as the cost of hardware and software for ITC is very expensive.
