Dominica Cancer Society Hosts Walk for the CURE for Cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Dominica Cancer Society has not excluded themselves from the celebrations.

On Saturday October 6th, a walk for the CURE for cancer was held from Massacre and Pointe Michel to the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

Many persons gathered in Pointe Michel, to walk in memory of a loved one, or to support a survivor, or simply to walk in solidarity with everyone else.

Ricky Charles, one of the participants of the walk, loves walking and took part because he felt the need to make others aware, that cancer in a serious disease, but it does not have to be the end of your life if it is detected early.

Ms. Clementia Victor walked to support those who are battling with, and survived the disease. She personally knows of a few survivors from her church but not anyone personally.

After the walk, a rally was held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. Ms. Victor looked forward to getting tested for the disease.

Among the walkers that day was the Honourable Health Minister, Julius Timothy says the cancer is a very debilitating disease, but we are now realizing that cancer can be cured.

If you are diagnosed with cancer you can go to the Dominica Cancer Society and there you will receive support, and if treatment is needed they will also assist in that regard.

Currently there is one cancer patient who is in Colombia undergoing treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
