Dominica Cricket Umpire’s Association Celebrates 44th Anniversary

On Tuesday June 11th, the Dominica Cricket Umpire Association, held their Annual General Meeting at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Mr. Lennox Abraham, President of the Association stated, the Dominica Cricket Umpire Association, since its inception in 1964, has played an integral part in the development of cricket umpiring in Dominica.

On their 44th anniversary, they paid tribute to Mr. Phillip Alleyne and Mr. Thomas Baptiste who had the in-sight in forming this Assocaition.

According to Mr. Abraham, the Association has seen the rise and fall of many cricket clubs and teams, but continues to nurture persons who are interested in umpiring.

“Being a Cricket Umpire in this present day posses many challenges for us, , the failure to be able to recruit new members, put more pressure on the few members that are available,’ he explained.

Vice President of the West Indies Cricket Board, Mr. Emmanuel Nanthan, noted that most times umpiring may be classified as a thankless job.
