Dominica Grammar School celebrates 118 years in existence
Principal, staff and students of the Dominica Grammar School (DGS), will host a grand thanksgiving ceremony on Friday January 28th 2011, in commemoration of their 118th anniversary of dedicated service to the country.
The school was established in the year 1893 and has educated and rounded many prominent figures in society, such as Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Liam Sebastien and Sir Clarence Seignoret.
while speaking to SAT TV News on January 26th 2011, Principal of the Dominica Grammar School, Alicia Jean-Jacques said that although the official date to celebrate founders day is January 16th 2011, the school has chosen Friday, January 28th 2011 as the date to celebrate the occasion since it gives the students and teacher ample time to prepare for the celebrations.
”After the prayer service, the public will be able to view exhibits of students which cover various aspects such as woodwork, art and home management,” said Ms Jean-Jacque.
The principal expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed towards the success of the Dominica Grammar School.
She said, “I would like to thank the Ministry of Education, staff, well wishers and benefactors for aiding in the school’s success.”
She said as principal of the Dominica Grammar School, one of her goals is to ensure that every child receives the standard of education that is needed to arrive at their maximum potential.
“I want the students to be very successful, people who will make sound decisions and make meaningful contributions to the country like passed students have done,” said the Principal.
