Dominica murder toll takes a leap from 4 to 8
Police are reporting that no suspects are currently being questioned regarding the murder of 32-year old Omara Small also known as Munga Freeman. Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Claude Weekes said that investigations are continuing but leads are not forthcoming.
‘We are doing all in our power to bring immediate closure to this matter. As you know, any one murder is too much for our country, and like I always say we have to do our utmost break the culture of silence and see that justice prevails,’ said Weekes.
Inspector Weekes said that a 22-year old mother is assisting the police with investigations into the stabbing of her two children. Sara-Lynn Augustine of Mahaut is currently in police custody following the stabbing of her 5 year old and 2 month old daughters.
Meanwhile, 11 year old Asher Bellot of Cochrane is nursing injuries at the Princess Margaret Hospital, after he was hit by a vehicle on September 16th.
In related news, a murder charge brought against Sherman Webb of Kingshill at the Roseau Magistrate Court yesterday, has brought the island’s murder toll to 8 for 2010. Webb who was released on bail on Monday is now in police custody for the murder of a non-national. In 2009, there were 13 murders in Dominica.
