Dominica observes ‘International day for preservation of the ozone layer’
On Thursday, September 16th 2010 Dominica joined the rest of the world in observing international day for the preservation of the ozone layer. The United Nations general assembly celebrates this day as an event to commemorate the date of the signing of the montreal protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer in 1987.
The theme for 2010 is ‘ozone protection: governance and compliance at its best’.
As part of the observance, the Environmental Coordinating Unit presented a new refridgerant identifier to the Dominica Bureau of Standards who was represented by Mr Simon Nyaaba at a presentation ceremony earlier today.
Free on-the-move inspections were also conducted at various governmental departments throughout the day on vehicle mobile air-conditioning systems.
