Dominica Olympic Committee Press Conference

The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) sees a bright and progressive future for the Olympic movement in Dominica.

At a press conference on August 23rd, the DOC gave remarks about the team’s participation in the London Olympic Games 2012.

They mentioned it was an honour to have Ericson Hurtault and Luan Gabriel as part of their team in London.

Felix Wilson, Acting President of the DOC says Luan Gabriel was treated as a princess and she never indicated her discomfort, dissatisfaction or adverse concern during her subjoin at the Olympics.

Thomas Dorsette, Secretary General of the DOC say the Olympic Committee does not select an Olympic team directly, but through the National Association of a participating sport like swimming, and standards are set by their international federation.

The mandate at the DOC is that the athletes come first.

Ms. Mavis Williams, PRO of the DOC says they are endeavoring to build better administrators and have 2 IOC Certified Sports Administrator Training Courses in September.

She also said the DOC is making plans to have a multi purpose sporting facility built, the first of which will be a 400 meter Olympic track surrounding a football field.

She says the reality of that involves a tripartite intervention involving the government, the DOC and international donors including IAAF, FIFA and the IOC.

The DOC will contribute substantively to the sports tourism aspirations of Dominica.

The DOC will also like to see artery, cycling and swimming strive under capable hands.
