Dominica State College Students Host Health Fair
Health was the center of attention at the Dominica State College (DSC) on Thursday May 8th 2014, as psychology class hosted its annual Health Fair.
The event was geared alerting young persons on the importance of health.
President of the DSC, Dr. Donald Peters stated, that the health fair is very significant with the increase of non-communicable diseases.
He added, the exercise was important as whatever was learnt can be transmitted to the community and home as the students now possess new information critical in managing our health.
The students received valuable information from Lester Guye of the National HIV/AIDS Response Unit.
He noted, that those are mostly affected by HIV are between the ages of 15 and 49, the most productive age group in Dominica.
Meanwhile, Peptic Ulcers was explained by nurse Candia Nelson to the students.
Other persons spoke about Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity and Fibroids.
The students also hosted an exhibition of various foods, conducted health checks for Diabetes and Hypertension, weight and size measurements as well as demonstrations of the proper condom use.
