Dominican Delegation Travels to Guadeloupe for Football Championships
A team of Dominican footballers left the Island for Morne à L’eau Guadeloupe on Tuesday March 26th 2013, where they will participate in the Friendship under 17 Football Tournament.
President of the La Plaine Youth Sports Academy, Mr. Derrick Lestrade, says this was made possible by the Mayor of Morne à L’eau Jean-Claude Lombion, extending an invitation to Dominica to participate for the second time, as they participated in 2012.
Mr. Lestrade says this trip could only materialize due to the hard work of a number of individuals and businesses such as; Element Agencies, The La Plaine Village Council, Jungle Bay Resort, The Dominica Football Association, Rosalie Bay Resort and Doctor Christopher Williams among others.
Reflecting on how well the team performed last year, he knows they can do even better this time around said Mr. Lestrade.
The competition began on Wednesday March 27th and will run until March 30th 2013.
With 16 teams participating in the event, there will be two games daily leading to the finals on Sunday March 31st.
Mr. Lestrade pointed out that the players are very excited to participate in the tournament for a second year.
The President says he would like to see more local competitions amongst the football academies locally, while they work towards opportunities to participate in more regional events.
